The beguiling story of Bill the Butcher’s sudden closing continues with more bizarre business practices being brought to light each day. In yesterday’s Seattle Times story by Rami Grunbaum it was reported that the ‘corporate headquarters’ of BTB was actually the $2 million dollar, 4,560 square foot Queen Anne craftsman bought by the company for and lived in by CEO J’Amy Owens – complete with an authentic Japanese tea garden!?! Who says corporate greed is limited to Wall Street? Apparently, it also exists on West Galer Street…
Single Shot opened with a bang this past weekend on Capitol Hill. The 40 seat space is located next to Top Pot on Summit Ave. which was formerly a gallery. Restaurateur’s Rory McCormick and chef James Sherrill of Re:Public renown have created a menu focused on produce with an added kick as evidenced in their Black Rice and Black Mussels dish including Uni, Crisp Pork Belly and Fennel. Single Shot is open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Unfortunately, Top Pot closes at 9 p.m. so if you want a glazed old fashioned it’ll have to be dessert before dinner. But what’s wrong with that?
If you’re looking for great coffee and a place to work for the day you have now found salvation if you happen upon Ada’s Technical Books on 425 15th Ave E in Capitol Hill. Their new co-working space dubbed ‘The Office’ (queue Handbags and Gladrags theme) is renting space by the day at $20 per. Monthly rental space is already sold out but you can still drop in and get your coffee fix while meeting some pretty interesting technology minded people.
Nothing else is happening today unless you really like oysters. If slurping those amorphous bivalves of the sea is your thing then you’ll want to head to Monsoon where they are now $1 apiece during Happy Hour. Of course, you’ll have to order at least six to get the deal but hey – who eats 2 oysters and calls it quits? Monsoon offers two ‘Happy Hours’ daily with hours varying depending on the day of the week. Check their site for more info.
