Your Daily Dose of Food News, Events and Must-Read Miscellany

Over the course of the month of December we’ve included several options for you to spend NYE. If you haven’t made plans as of yet, now’s your chance to call and make a reservation at one of these.

If you are serious about your food and want to have an experience to remember then head to Il Corvo where Chef Mike Easton teams up with Miles James (formerly of the beloved Dot’s Delicatessen) on the 31st. At press time, two seatings remained at 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The prix fixe event will be a four course feast comprised of our favorite treats from the sea, sky and land and will include champagne and wine pairings for each course. Prices range from $132 to $142 depending on the seating time and tickets are available for the event at Brownpapertickets.com. The menu also carries my favorite tagline of the year: If you have any food allergies, severe dislikes or intolerances, please feel free to seek reservations at any of Seattle’s other fantastic restaurants. Word.

The dynamic duo of McCracken and Tough are doing up NYE in style starting with $14 bottle of Brut sparkling wine at The Old Sage in a tribute to kissing 2014 goodbye. Live burlesque will be featured next door at the speakeasy above Tavern Law which is Needle & Thread with seatings at 8 and 10:30 – call 206.322.0133 for reservations. But wait, there’s more, Spur Gastropub rings in the new year with a six course meal including Scallops with satsuma, sunchoke and caviar as well as Wagyu sirloin with celery root and matsutake mushrooms. Seats are $120 and reservations can be made at 206.728.6706.

If you want to party in aquatic style then check out Argosy Cruises. Executive Chef and James Beard award winner Christine Keff will be dishing up 5 courses while you float around on the Royal Argosy through Lakes Union and Washington on New Year’s Eve. $250 gets you wine pairings, champagne at midnight and live music. Tickets can be purchased here for the cruise departing at 8 p.m.

Macleod’s on Ballard Ave. will be ringing in the new year in Scottish style – with bagpipers, champagne and, of course, scotch. Come sing that sappy, melancholy song Auld Lang Syne with your new Scottish friends at this Hogmanay party starting at 4pm. Perhaps there will even be some haggis and Trainspotting showing to complete the stereotypical mental picture.

Bell + Whete is serving complimentary hors d’oeuvres in addition to a $35 tasting menu on the big day. Head to the bar for petites bouchees from 10 p.m. to midnight such as Foie Gras Profiteroles and Chanterelle Risotto Croquettes. Or, be adventurous and order the tasting menu while choosing from dishes like Porcini Potage, Tails and Trotter’s Pork Chop heirloom carrots and pickled mustard butter or Chocolate Pot de Creme with hazelnut shortbread. For reservations call 206.538.0180.

Vegans need love on New Year’s too right? So head to Cafe Flora is hosting both an NYE dinner and a NYD brunch buffet. Vegans and those seeking freedom from soy and gluten will be excited to know that they can come here without worry. Dinner includes the regular menu as well as a selection of specials including Spicy Corn and Pepper Fritters and Mushroom Ravioli. Brunch will feature items such as Seasonal tamales, Mushroom strata and Crepes. Reservations are required for parties of six or more for both dates, and can be made at 206.325.9100.
