Only in America can you find people willing to spoil the virtues of Farmers Markets. Apparently, California is now tackling this problem with a newly formed $1M task force that will focus on identifying market vendors that are bringing in goods that they did not grow – but rather purchased through wholesale and/or retail channels for resale. In this piece on Modern Farmer, you can read about vegetable shysters and the newly formed Cali food police. Chandler’s Crab House is in the midst of a three month tour around the globe during its Passport to Taste event – a special series created by Chef Thomas Cullen featuring versions of their crab cakes influenced by various global cuisines. The series continues from October 28 to November 10 focusing on Japan with France, India, Greece, Morocco and Italy all following in succession for two week runs. Of course, the original, unadulterated and self-proclaimed ‘World’s Best Crab Cake’ will still be available at all times.

I always tell friends who ask me to come to anywhere in Magnolia that I have to pack a lunch just to get there. But some destinations may be well worth the trip. Take Urban Family Brewing which recently opened its new tasting room this past weekend. There you can try cleverly named brews such as So West It’s East IPA and Deuce is Wild – an 8 month wine barrel-aged symphony of hoppy goodness. The tasting room is open Friday to Sunday; check their website for opening times.
