Your Daily Dose of Food News, Events and Must-Read Miscellany
Kicking off today’s food news, another restaurant closes due to reasons that have nothing to do with the new minimum wage laws in Seattle. The ill-conceived Spaghetti Western closed yesterday just over 4 months from its inception. Owner Aleks Dimitrijevich decided to shutter the replacement for the once-fabulous La Bete which will now be reincarnated as an event space for parties up to 40 including pop up dinners. So, now where the hell are we going to get pasta with bbq ribs? Nowhere. That’s where.
In better news, the ladies behind food truck fascination Marination have announced that they’ll be opening a new location in Columbia City. The new spot will be housed in the former Esmay Auto Rebuild garage originally built in 1947. The menu will feature primarily new items in the same Asian-Hawaiian fusion vein as Marination with a couple of classics thrown in to round out the menu. Fall is the target opening date but we can all cross our fingers and hope the build out gets completed sooner. It’s all about the southside y’all!
And last but not least, fans of Sheri LaVigne’s Calf and Kid cheese shop in Melrose Market have been eagerly awaiting the opening of her new venture Culture Club Cheese Bar on 12th Ave in Capitol Hill. On April 13th she’ll be serving a five-course pop up dinner called Rind House. For those of you that want to bring your own wine to dinner – corkage is $25 at Bellini. I learned the hard way.
