You might think that winter means there’s nothing good in Seattle farmers markets. Well, you would be wrong. Many markets in the Seattle area are open year-round and January brings us a diverse array of alliums (leeks, shallots, onions), root vegetables, squash and more. Also, this upcoming Saturday will bring us wild spot prawns at the U District market! Plus, don’t forget to check out delicious grapefruit shrub (a nice addition to cocktails) available at all markets. Support your local farmers, ranchers and fisherfolk all year long while eating healthy, delicious local products.
If you want to get down with Brass Monkey like Mike D and Ad Rock then hit RockCreek on the last Sunday of every month for Beat Breaks and Pancakes Hip Hop Brunch. What could be better than Chef Eric Donnelly mixing up some phunky fresh food over mad beats provided by DJ Easy E. Specials include NWA—pancakes with Nutella, walnuts, and creme anglaise, Biggie Smalls—short stack with braised bacon and sunny side up eggs and Public Enemy #1—ham, turkey, Swiss, raspberry jam, and pancakes. There will be no shortage of the aforementioned Brass Monkey or Gin and Juice. Peace out.
