In lighter news, Fall is the season for fromage festivities with this weekend’s 5th annual Cascadia Cheese Festival at the Central Co-Op on Capitol Hill. This diverse event includes everything from a grilled cheese sandwich contest to how-to make cheese classes to beer and cheese tastings to pygmy goat petting. Come meet your local cheesemonger and the artisans that bring you specially crafted dairy creations. The event runs from 11a-4p this Saturday October 11th.
For those of you carnivores that previously patronized Bill the Butcher you already know that every one of their six stores suddenly closed without warning earlier this week. Reports of unpaid loans from mattress queens (now that is just a funny nickname for someone), disgruntled employees, and shady business practices abound. Meanwhile, cows, pigs and chickens everywhere breathed a collective sigh of relief and will live to moo, oink and cluck another day.
Doughnut admirers will be happy to know that there is still space at The Pantry at Delancey for their Classic American Doughnut Shop class on Wednesday, October 15th. From 6:30p-9:30p students will learn how to make classic confections such as glazed doughnuts, Boston Creme’s, maple bars and the ubiquitous apple fritter. How can you go wrong?
