Your Daily Dose of Food News, Events and Must-Read Miscellany
Hopefully you all scored some type of personal victory this weekend whether it was by finally hooking up with that special someone or kicking the former almost-love-of-your-life to the curb once and for all. And quite possibly you did it over a fine meal. But now we will have a respite from Hallmark holidays until mid-March. So, let the eating begin…at Momofuku alumnus Christopher Yang’s Chinese Laundry @ Bellini pop-up scheduled for Monday, March 2nd. Here you are promised ‘flavor bombs’ in the form of General Tso’s Sweetbreads, Lion’s Head Meatball and Scorched Rice. This is part three of a three part series so it’s your last chance to go home a winner. But at $35 all-in for a five course meal you are already a winner–if you get tickets which are limited.
Chef/Owner Manu Alfau of Pioneer Square’s Dominican gem La Bodega has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $9,000 to build it’s outdoor patio. Continue the trend of leveraging crowdfunding to build out components of restaurants, the patio will double the seating for the tiny restaurant while giving you space to sip on a happy hour cocktail while you eat yucca empanadas and wait for your bus home.
If you are looking for ways to score karma points then here’s one for you. Bow-Edison’s Thoughtful Food Farm lost their historic barn in a tragic fire last week and insurance is only covering a fraction of the loss. In addition to the structure, Farmers Jeff Richardson and Jeniffer Tobon lost all their rabbits as well as equipment and tools. If you’d like to help them raise the barn from the ashes then head to their GoFundMe campaign and lend a hand.
