1. Lucky Ballard. Earlier this year, Slate Roasters opened shop in the former Sun Cafe space at 5413 6th Ave NW. A stone’s throw from Slate at 425 Market, Brimmer & Heeltap is getting closer to opening day. My Ballard reported on a note posted on the gastropub’s door announcing plans to launch before the holidays. Eater has since confirmed via co-owner Jen Doak that the restaurant in the former Le Gourmand space is now looking at a mid-January start date. Check Facebook for updates.
2. Belle Clementine turns two this weekend, and the Ballard communal dining spot serves a festive Farmer’s Market Brunch this (and every) Sunday. The meal, which last week included cheddar grits with 12-hour pork belly and housemade Gifford bread, happens from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. This week’s menu is still in the works.
3. Whole Foods Market in South Lake Union hosts its next Oyster Happy Hour this Tuesday, December 17. The always popular after work event lasts from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, but get there on time if you want to score plenty of $.69 oysters on the half shell.
4. If you’re the parent of a fussy eater, this Guardian post will tell you what’s best left unsaid at the dinner table. For example: “The parsnips are really yummy. Mummy loves them.” Read the full cheat sheet over here.
