1. Kraken Congee is hosting a viewing party for the premiere of CNBC reality show Restaurant Startup, on which the Kraken gents are competing for investor funding. The premier event takes place on July 8 at 8 p.m. at the Belltown Pub. The Facebook announcement says there “might even have some Pork Belly Adobo congee available.”
2. Baker extraordinaire Laura Pyles is cooking up a breakfast-for-dinner event at Ballard’s Porkchop & Co tonight from 5 to 10 p.m. Choose from enticing-sounding treats like Belgian waffles with cheese and bacon butter biscuits with bacon gravy and “monster sticky buns.”
3. Bluebird’s Fremont soda fountain opened Friday and Eater Seattle has a look inside the space, where you’ll find “soda jerks making floats, shakes, and sundaes behind a salvaged and restored pharmacy soda counter.”
4. We’re all guilty of tossing out spoiled food; luckily in Seattle we can compost. Still, 40 percent of food in the U.S. goes uneaten each year, a phenomenon accountable for the annual release of 3.5 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide. The Atlantic recently wrote about some new technology to avoid this, including smart labels that tell you when stuff is on the verge of going bad.
