1. John Howie Steak is celebrating its fifth anniversary on Friday. Chef Howie will be on hand, drawing five names at random from a batch of the restaurant’s most frequent guests. The lucky winners will each receive a “John Howie Steak experience” for two.
2. Rhein Haus will celebrate Oktoberfest fron September 18-October 4. The “beer-centric” event will serve special brews and grilled food in the biergarten like Steckerlfisch (fish on a stick) and smoked bratwurst. Fresh Bistro is hosting a Spanish-Japanese fusion “Long Table Dinner” on September 18 at 6 p.m. The dinner will involve a six-course meal from chef de cuisine Shun Viger with wine pairings from Tristan Ohms at Small Vineyard. 4. The CDC has found that most kids in the U.S. have way too much salt in their diets. Some may get as much as 30 percent more than their daily recommended value, putting children and teenagers at risk for high blood pressure and heart disease.
