Ballard Annex Oyster House is celebrating the 1907 annexation of Ballard by the city of Seattle today at 3:45 p.m. The event involves a mock annexation protest from 3:45 to 4, followed by a moment of silence and a history of the annexation. There’s also a beer garden in partnership with Stoup Brewing; noshes like fish and chips, fried oysters, and poutine; and a chance to snag some Free Ballard buttons. 2. Kedai Makan has come out with a line of bottled sauces, which they’re now selling at their Capitol Hill storefront and the Broadway Farmers Market. The four sauces include Sambal Goreng, Kedai Makan’s most popular condiment; Sweet Chili Sambal, great for fried foods; Chili Ginger Sambal, an everyday hotsauce similar to Sriracha; and Chicken Soy, a fortified soy sauce used on Kedai Makan’s roast chicken special. 3. Ivar’s Restaurants is giving away a Copper River salmon dinner for two (valued at $200) via Facebook. To enter, fill out this form before June 1. Capitol Hill’s new Sunset Electric building will be home to Paul Reder’s newest project, a restaurant with a beer focus called Stout. The 5,700 square foot restaurant should be open in the fall or winter of this year.5. Hemp might soon be Washington state’s next cash crop, if state legislators decide to authorize WSU to study the plant’s value. Hemp would apparently grow well in our climate and could bring serious income to the state’s farmers. Though used for food in other countries, Washington-grown hemp would likely be primarily used for biofuels.
