1. Ballard will welcome “farm-to-neighborhood” restaurant Brunswick & Hunt on May 22 with dinner service starting at 4 PM. The NW 70th Street restaurant will have Chef Jeffrey Davidson at the helm, serving up locally-sourced mostly-meat dishes. Lead Bartender Eric Holmquist will mix high quality cocktails and pour from eight rotating taps and a Northwest-focused wine list.
2. A Hillman City gas station is being remade into Big Chickie, which will focus on Peru’s pollo a la brasa, chicken roasted on a charcoal rotisserie. Owner Matt Stubbs hopes to open this summer.
3. Eater Seattle announced yesterday that five-month-old Kaisho has closed. The Bellevue izakaya restaurant will be remade into a Blue C event space and test kitchen.
4. Americans are feeling the wallet squeeze of recently rising food prices – especially when it comes to beef and pork – but an article by NBC News has a dose of perspective: “Americans devote a smaller portion of their overall budget to groceries than most anyone else in the world,” the article says. “That includes both developed countries such as Germany and Japan and developing countries such as the Philippines or Kenya.”
