1. Babirusa, the bar next to Blind Pig Bistro, has announced it will open tomorrow for lunch and dinner. The Eastlake spot will serve Blind Pig-crafted small plates and cocktails.
2. Visitors to Lummi Island will soon have another restaurant option, a sibling restaurant to the Willows Inn. According to Seattle Magazine, James Beard Award winner Blaine Wetzel helped woo Seth Caswell, former Google executive chef and owner of the now closed emmer & rye, to head the kitchen at the Beach Store Cafe. The former greasy spoon spot will become a casual foil to the Willows, but with the same farm-to-table, island-sourced approach.
3. Golden Beetle has announced its lineup of summer cocktail classes. The popular classes will include themes like Mad Men (June 21), Bitters (July 12 and 19), and Sangria (August 16). To participate, email skye@golden-beetle.com or call 206.706.2977.
4. An international team of scientists is predicting that by 2048, all saltwater fish will be extinct. They’re blaming overfishing, pollution, habitat loss, and climate change for the prediction, though they say it’s not too late to turn the tides. Yikes.
