1. Today’s South Lake Union Block Party features a best burger competition, beer garden and fare from food trucks and restaurants in the ’hood, including Cactus and Shanik. If that’s not enough reason to go, Dirty Dancing is screening at dusk. Festivities at Denny Way and Westlake Ave. kick off at noon and last till 11 p.m.
2. Nosh Pit reports on Wallingford Farmers Market newcomer Knife for Hire Picnic Foods. The vendor is positioned to feed hungry shoppers in a park that offers plenty of grass for taking a seat.
3. James Beard Best Chef NW award-winner Maria Hines is celebrating the seventh birthday of her Wallingford restaurant Tilth with a Bourbon + BBQ pop-up on Saturday, August 31. The menu includes Bone Marrow and Tomato Jam on Toast and Kohlrabi and Cabbage Slaw paired with about half a dozen bourbons. The family-style meal lasts from 2:30 to 4:30 pm.
