1. Here’s another big win for Pioneer Square: Hitchcock chef Brendan McGill will launch bier/brat haus Altstadt at 209 1st Ave. S., hopefully in time for Oktoberfest. Eater broke the news, reporting that the new German-inspired space will seat around 100 and feature house-made sausage, frites and kraut.
2. You have from now until October 8 to send dessert recipes to the new local PBS show KCTS 9 Cooks: Just Desserts. Recipes will appear in a forthcoming companion cookbook, and you could end up preparing those molasses cookies or whoopie pies on air. KCTS 9 Cooks: Just Desserts debuts November 2.
3. While tomatoes from beloved vendor Billy’s Gardens will be a no show at area farmers markets this summer, a lot of gorgeous varietals from local purveyors are ready to slice. Seattle Mag has the details.
