1. From one pie shop to another: Central Pizza opened Monday in the storefront that housed All-Purpose Pizza for seven years at 2901 S. Jackson St. According to the Central District News, the made-over space features a bar and booth tables that were salvaged from an old basketball court from Lakeside High School. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 3 to 11 p.m., Fridays from 3 p.m. to midnight, Saturdays from noon to midnight and Sundays from noon to 11 p.m.
2. Bar Sue opens its doors this Sunday in the former Lucky 8s China House space on 12th Ave. and Union St. CHS reports that the watering hole is going for a low-key Americana vibe, with a menu that includes BBQ and sweet tea bourbon. Check out the Bar Sue Facebook page over here.
3. While we’re in the neighborhood, a whole host of Capitol Hill restaurants and bars are taking part in the third annual Eat Out on Capitol Hill. The all-day event is a benefit for Country Doctor. If you dine at participating venues like Cure, the Hopvine and Poco on Tuesday, September 10, a portion of your bill will be donated to the community health centers.
4. Death Cab For who? There are some things about this weekend’s Bumbershoot Festival you won’t want to miss, like grabbing a bite at the Stumbling Goat booth at Fisher Rooftop or eating just about anywhere in the Armory. We offer up a few picks for where to find the best food at the fest.
