Two bits of news from the fancy-pantsy grocery store beat today: the first about a new Trader Joe’s store, the second about booze at Whole Foods. To begin, it looks like everything is now official: West Seattle will be getting a Trader Joe’s all its own, and all you Westies will only have to wait until……next year.I just got an email from Alison Mochizuki, one of the TJ press wranglers, with the final word on the new opening. The way things are looking right now, the new, 14,000 square foot store will be going into the space at 4545 Fauntleroy Way SW, and is looking to open at some as-yet-unspecified point in 2011. Permits have been filed, paperwork has been signed and this one looks to be a done deal. The address that Joe’s is taking over? It’s the former home of a car dealership near the intersection of Fauntleroy and Alaska (so, you know, nice trade-up), housed in a surprisingly cool kind of Southwestern Deco building. And once construction gets under way, it looks as though most of that exterior will be preserved. As soon as we get word on any kind of proposed opening date, we’ll let you know. But don’t hold your breath.I also heard, in response to yesterdays post about grab-and-go, single-serving alcohol delivery systems for those who need to booze it up on the run, that Whole Foods, in at least some locations, sells the weird-ass Japanese pop-top wine cups pictured above. Though I haven’t seen said vino myself, I also haven’t been to a Whole Foods in quite some time, so I’m going to have to make a point of checking this one out at some point. In the meantime, can anyone confirm or deny this wonderful little rumor? I’d hate to go into the belly of the beast and come out disappointed.
