There was no way that Zippy’s Giant Burgers was ever going to stay forever in the little closet that it has called home for the past two years. I mean, for one, that place is tiny, and Zippy’s has amassed such a following in West Seattle (and elsewhere) that the hungry crowds regularly spill out into the parking lot and can do nothing but stare longingly at the distant front door while the crew inside works frantically through the backlog. For two, the landlord who controls the property at 1513 S.W. Holden St. has been in foreclosure for months, which has left Zippy’s future completely up in the air. And for three, in its current incarnation, Zippy’s doesn’t serve beer. And what goes better with a great cheeseburger than a cold beer?So really it’s nothing but good news that Zippy’s has a new location and will be moving when their Holden Street lease expires in mid-April.According to Cook (and the West Seattle Blog, which was all over this story), the new location is going to be at 9614 14th Ave. S.W. in White Center, and will (hopefully) be open in late April/early May, provided he and the crew can pivot quick and get the old location broken down and the new one up and running fast.So what to expect from Zippy’s new home? Space, and lots of it. The dining room on 14th Avenue seats around 60 (roughly 59 more than the dining room on Holden), and the new kitchen will allow the crew space to cut their own French fries. With all this new acreage, Cook is already looking at ways to expand the menu. And the best news is that he’ll be going for a license to serve beer–something that will only make the already popular little burger joint even more of a destination.
