The University District is now enjoying the recently openedfood stand Bratz (yes, like the dolls, we see a frivolous lawsuit in their future). They’reserving up German fast food at a walk-up window just below Cedars, making a great quick meal to warm you up on blustery winter days. The menu issmall, consisting of two different kinds of brats–red (pork and beef) or white(just pork)–and schnitzel, all prepared a variety of ways. You can get yoursausage on a roll or sliced and doused with a zesty redsauce, while theschnitzel is available in sandwich form or served with either a mushroom huntersauce or lemon. They are more than generous with their seasoned fries, and oneorder of the mushroom hunter schnitzel could easily feed two people. They alsooffer fresh baked rolls, potato salad, and German roasted almonds, as well as adessert you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere in Seattle: elephant ears. There is only one uncovered stand-up table on the sidewalk, so expect to eatyour wiener on the go or at home with plenty of napkins.Find restaurant gossip like this plus local food events and great dateideas in our Big Bites e-newsletter, sent out every Tuesday.
