The Place: Plum Bistro, 1429 12th Ave., 838-5333, CAPITOL HILLThe Hours: Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Monday-Friday, 3-6 p.m.The Deal: A couple signature drinks go for $5, including the super-sweet Sweet Tea White Russian. Made with soy milk, the drink comes topped with a cane-sugar rim, so you know they mean business. A selection of Plum’s burgers are miniaturized for happy hour and sold for $2 a pop. Like the rest of the menu, these tiny, hearty bites are inspired by numerous cuisines. The $4 fries can be prepared almost 35 ways, and there are definitely enough per plate to share. The small plates, ranging from nachos ($4) to eggplant parmesan ($6), will fill you up as long as you order a plate of those fries (there are enough choices to make the fries go with anything on the menu). The Digs: Plum’s decor is as worldly as its menu. Simple Asian-inspired centerpieces include a single flower, while Spanish music floats through the air. The art installment hanging when I visited melded modern technologies into Native American totems. Although nothing in the room really matches, Plum pulls it together seamlessly with its casual attitude. The Verdict: Happy hour at Plum is not extensive, but it is most definitely solid. The fare is significantly lighter than at most other happy hours–even the fries are more amicable in the stomach. And I like the eclectic variety of their menu and atmosphere.Follow Voracious on Facebook and Twitter.
