The MatadorSeattle’s best nachos cost just five bucks during hapy hour. The Place:
The Matador, 7824 Leary Way N.E., 425-883-2855, REDMOND.The Hours: Daily 4-6 p.m. and 10 p.m.-1 a.m.The Digs: Think South of the Border saloon – infiltrated by Microsoft minions. Based near the corporation’s campus, the Eastside branch of this local chain is a far cry from the frat boy dominated Ballard spot. In short, you can carry a conversation without it being interrupted by a terrible pickup line. The Deal: The happy hour menu here is — gasp — food-only. But even if drinking in moderation is foreign concept to you and your friends, it’s worth checking out because the Matador serves the best damn nachos in the Seattle area. Costing just five bucks, this Texas-sized platter would make a worthy last meal — a glorious heap of tortilla chips loaded with calories in the form of jack and cheddar cheese, black beans, guacamole, sour cream, and your choice of chorizo, chicken, or steak. (Go for the super tender steak cubes!)The Verdict: For delicious diet-busting Mexican food, The Matador is nothing short of awesome. Drink prices are a tad steep for happy hour, so you’re best sticking to one margarita unless you make Microsoft-style bank. But if you’re at the Redmond Matador, chances are you do — so bottom’s up.
