The George and Dragon Pub in Fremont has been providing Seattle with an English-style hangout to grab a pint and catch a soccer match for the past 15 years, and co-owner John Bayliss thought it was about time for Ballard to get a European pub of its own. The result will be The Market Arms, taking over the old Mandrake’s antiques store location on the corner of NW Market Street and 24th Avenue NW. Bayliss tells us he’s working on a complete remodel to add necessities like a bar and walk-in cooler, and that once they’re open they’ll be serving a menu that will consist of traditional pub food like fish and chips and shepherd’s pie, falling around the $10-$12 mark. The new spot will have a laid-back neighborhood vibe that includes a pool table, dart boards, sidewalk patio and TVs tuned mainly to sports, including soccer. Bayliss says they’re planning on a full bar “so there’s something for everyone,” and aiming for a late September opening.Find restaurant gossip like this plus local food events and great date ideas in our Big Bites e-newsletter, sent out every Tuesday.
