“The Daily Drink” brings you a must-try libation from our booze columnist Zach Geballe.

Sometimes, on a quiet night in, I just want to sip a little bourbon. While of course there are tons of excellent bourbons on the market, it can be surprisingly difficult to strike a balance between quality and cost. Four Roses is one of my favorite distilleries for that very reason, as they sit perfectly positioned at the intersection of value and taste. Of course it has the rich, toasty, caramel flavor that you’d expect from a Kentucky bourbon, but it also has a brightness and slight spicy quality that keeps it from getting too cloying. It’s easily found at most local liquor retailers, and won’t break the bank. My kind of drink indeed!

Zach Geballe does a lot of drinking. When he’s not working at The Dahlia Lounge or for his business Vine Trainings, he’s studying for the Court of Master Sommeliers Exam. His weekly column here at Seattle Weekly, The Bar Code, endeavors to inspire, educate and sometimes poke fun at all things beer, wine and spirits related.
