“The Daily Drink” brings you a must-try libation from our booze columnist Zach Geballe.

Making a lighter beer taste good is a surprisingly difficult challenge for many brewers. Hops pack a lot of flavor, as do more richly malted grains, and so assembling a beer without some of those tools can be vexing. Fortunately, plenty of local breweries have learned that while there’s obviously a large market for rich, robust beers, plenty of us enjoy lower alcohol and fewer calories, without having to settle for mass-produced crap. As such, it’s always nice to find a lighter beer that shows real character, like the Soundgaarden (yes, with an extra “a”) from Poulsbo’s Sound Brewery. Crisp and light, this Belgian-styled Wit showed a spiced note and a slightly sour finish that kept it super refreshing. I enjoyed this one at the Whisky Bar in Belltown, but I’ve seen it on tap at a few different spots in the city.
