“The Daily Drink” brings you a must-try libation from our booze columnist Zach Geballe.

It’s an old cliche: “gentlemen prefer blondes.” While I’m not sure if I’m a gentleman, it’s not quite a coincidence that both of the beers I’ve featured here in the Daily Drink are blonde ales. While it’s true that I tend to opt for lighter beers when given the choice, it also so happens that Hood River’s Pfriem Brewing is making a damn tasty Belgian strong blonde ale. Checking in at a hefty 7.5% ABV, it’s no waif, but it also doesn’t overpower the apple and pear notes that hide underneath a mellow spiced quality.

Zach Geballe does a lot of drinking. When he’s not working at The Dahlia Lounge or for his business Vine Trainings, he’s studying for the Court of Master Sommeliers Exam. His weekly column here at Seattle Weekly, The Bar Code, endeavors to inspire, educate and sometimes poke fun at all things beer, wine and spirits related.
