When you taste the specialty drinks, you won’t even care that Spice’s garlic-and-basil naan ($2.50) is akin to pizza dough. That texture effectively complements the rather large Carnival ($8), a deliciously cool mojito enhanced with mango, an excellent drink for warm, sun-kissed evenings. Meanwhile, the Lalita ($7), a chai martini drizzled with real honey, provides the perfect touch of comfort for dark, blustery nights. During happy hour, you can’t go wrong with the Vietnamese spring rolls($3.50), crisp and enhanced with a sharp sauce of ginger, sugar, and soy. Unfortunately, you can go wrong dipping Bombay vegetable fritters ($3) in the accompanying “spicy ketchup,” a fancy name for the unfortunate addition of curry to America’s classic red condiment. For deal-seekers, happy hour offers $4 wells, $6 double wells, Duck Pond 2002 chardonnay or Trinity Oaks 2002 cabernet sauvignon ($4/glass), as well as Widmer Hefeweizen ($3), Vashon Old Stock Ale ($3), Red Hook Indian Pale Ale ($3), and Mac & Jack’s African Amber (all $3), plus Stella Artois ($4) and Bud Light ($2.75), all on tap. 2301 Fifth Ave., 206-770-0606.
