So that was fun yesterday, right? I mean, first there was the Best of Seattle issue hitting the stands (and the internets). Then there was the Best of Seattle gift basket which I planned to give away to the person who finally, after hours and hours of struggle, managed to come up with five correct answers to the five pictographic clues that I posted yesterday afternoon.At 3:04pm.And which was solved correctly by 3:32pm–just 28 minutes after the post went live.Which is all just fine. I mean, I knew that someone was going to get the right answer. I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon.But I’ll bet you all want to know who won the Ginormous Gift Basket of Riches, don’t you? Well I’ll tell you.Right after the jump.On her third try, Kate hit the magic combo…kinda. She got everything more or less right, but had the chicken fried steak in the first picture as coming from the Benbow Room. The answer I was looking for was the Heartland Cafe. And while, granted, they’re both in the same building, both owned by the same people and both serviced by the same kitchen, with the amount of loot that was on the line, I decided that I had to be a stickler for the details, so I went back and checked again the very simple rules that I’d laid down:5 pictures5 dishes5 different restaurants, each of which had won an award in this year’s Best of Seattle issue.As it turned out, the award I’d given this year for “Best Place For Pirates To Eat Tater Tots?” It went to both the Benbow Room and Heartland Cafe. And since the award was given to both places together, it was determined that either answer–Heartland or Benbow–would be technically correct.Which meant that Kate had, in fact, won the prize with five correct answers:Picture #1: chicken fried steak – Benbow roomPicture #2: sequimbled eggs – Steelhead dinerPicture #3: hamachi crudo – Mistral KitchenPicture #4: jiao-zi – Mandarin ChefPicture #5: gougere – CrushSo congratulations, Kate.
