Seattle can get a taste of New Orleans via a food truck, starting tomorrow.
My Ballard reports that the brothers behind Mr. Gyros in Greenwood opened a second location at the corner of 20th Avenue Northwest and Northwest 56th Street yesterday. Drunks, make note: they’ll be slinging gyros and feta-loaded fries until 2 a.m. on weekends.
On Capitol Hill, La Bete is up and running in the former Chez Gaudy space at 1802 Bellevue Avenue. The menu features wok-cooked Dungeness crab, grilled fish, and more. Also on the Hill, a High 5 Pie shop is scheduled to open at 12th Avenue between Pike Street and Madison Street by year’s end. Until then, you can pick up a pie at any Fuel Coffee location.
Downtown, Tom Douglas debuted his newest venture at 2010 Western Avenue. Seatown Snackbar features a large bar, sandwiches, rotisserie meat and poultry platters, snacks like smoked sturgeon and poached duck egg, plus a menu section devoted entirely to crab.
Over in Greenwood: King Falafel Grill reopened at 8317 Greenwood Avenue North. Also, a new produce store is coming to 8211 Greenwood Avenue North this fall. Theo’s Fresh Produce will feature goods from hundreds of local farms, plus plenty of Washington beer and wine.
Interbay residents can get a taste of New Orleans, starting tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to Magnolia Voice. A new food truck, Where Ya At Matt, will be selling homemade gumbo, po boys, red beans, and beignets at West Dravus Street and 16th Avenue West every Friday.
In Magnolia, a restaurant called Wheeler Street Kitchen coming to 3216 West Wheeler Street. Owner Greg Campbell, previously the chef at Third Floor Fish Cafe in Kirkland, plans to be serving New American cuisine in the space by September.
White Center scored a new bakery at 9602 16th Avenue Southwest. The aptly named 3.14 Bakery specializes in pies (surprise!), cookies, rolls, and more.
Outside Seattle city limits in Burien, the third Grand Central Bakery (626 Southwest 152nd Street) opens tomorrow, August 20. They will be donating a portion of opening day proceeds to the Highline Area Food Bank and the Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence. So be sure to stop by.
