Read on for a few weekend dining and drinking suggestions.
Eat slough food. This Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Slough Food in Edison, WA, is hosting another of its popular oyster parties. The event will be held in the specialty food shop’s covered back courtyard and feature Shigokus and other oyster varietals. Wine and pints of IPA from Bellingham-based Kulshan Brewery will also be available. This weekend’s oyster party may be the last until October, so now is the time to make the drive north.
Celebrate Thai New Year. Thaiku’s two-month-old Phinney Ridge location is commemorating Thai New Year with a traditional blessing and free slice of a special dessert tomorrow starting at 4 p.m. Formerly located on Ballard Ave., the new Thaiku at 6705 Greenwood Ave. N just rolled out its dessert list, which includes banana leaves filled with sweet sticky rice and custard and black sesame ice cream.
Drink wine at Joe Bar. Take Jameson Fink’s advice and head to Joe Bar at 810 E Roy St. on Capitol Hill. The sweet speck of a coffee shop offers a few nice pours, including a 2011 Domaine de Maubet for a very reasonable $7 a glass.
Save room for dessert. You might want to split that pulled pork sandwich: Sunday is National Pecan Day and Pinky’s Kitchen is taking note. In addition to BBQ, the food truck at 210 NE 45th St. in Wallingford is serving homemade bourbon-spiked pecan pie all weekend long.
