Photo by Leslie KellyIt’s hot, it’s juicy, it’s El Cubano at Shultzy’s.Freud would have a field day with this statement, but I don’t give a flying fig leaf: I love sausages. Big, small, spicy, mild, it doesn’t matter. I’ve never met a sausage I didn’t want to bite. But I think I found a brand-new favorite and it’s got a Cuban accent. Shultzy’s recently introduced El Cubano to its winning wiener lineup. OK, I realize a sausage is different than a wiener, but they’re in the same delicious family.I’ve been in a happy rut when I go to Shultzy’s, always ordering the hot Italian sausage burger with a fried egg on top. I do love a Cuban sandwich, though, the succulent roast pork topped with ham and Swiss. Sliced pickles and yellow mustard providing the proper condiment pop to this meaty combo package slipped between toasty bread. And the crack culinary team has taken that sammie on a tasty detour that sucked me right in.El Cubano showcases a spicy pork sausage, split down the middle by grill master Andy Muzzin. It’s then finished with salty, sweet slices of ham, gooey cheese, and the traditional embellishments. Hello hog heaven! While eating this porktastic creation, I couldn’t help wondering: Would it be even better with bacon? Mmmm, pig times three. Oh, and to wash that muther down? Yes, Shultzy’s has got an awesome selection of suds, ever-rotating taps and right proper glassware and all that. But it’s also got THE absolute best sparkling lemonade in Seattle. Just the thing to balance out all that porkiness. Follow Voracious on Twitter and Facebook.
