Name Your Poison: The Mai Tai One On: Myers and Appleton rum, amaretto, Cointreau, O.J. Why the tropical delight? “Because it’s delicious. It’s a tried-and-true drink in a way, but a little changed [here]. It’s pretty. And it definitely has a little kick to it.”Mark can tell I’m wondering if this is truly his favorite. “If I wasn’t having whiskey on the rocks, like usual.” My thoughts on Mark’s First Call drink: This twist on the traditional features no pineapple flavor, no grenadine, and Disaronno for almond flavor. The result is a much more drinkable (less sugary-sweet) Mai Tai with a grown-up feel. Admiring my cocktail under the suburst-like light of the overhead lamps, I start fantasizing that I’m on a Hawaiian honeymoon instead of in this (equally lovely) bar facing West Seattle. I snack on some lobster and corn fritters (yum), and leave feeling like I actually tied two on. “Maita’i” is the Tahitian word for “good,” and good God, that’s a potent drink. Why else should you visit? Because the Beatles, Neil Young, and Robert Plant have. At happy hour (3-6 p.m. Sun.-Thurs.) the $12 Mai Tai One On, along with other fancy libations, is half off! Perhaps one of the coziest and most romantic bars along the pier, it’s also good for solo drinking/dining. Mark tells me endless great stories about the Edgewater’s

rock and roll history, some of which, he explains, was immortalized in the Zappa song “The Mud Shark”–the 6/7’s former name.
