If bringing donuts to a hungry work crew is your Monday routine (to battle those beginning-of-the-week blues), then perhaps this latest news will come as a shocker Winchell’s Donut House (211 N.E. 45th St.) has disappeared from its Wallingford location. Wallyhood news ran into the owner of the shop, Brian Peeples, who confirmed that its sudden closure came as a result of a third-party buyer who backed out last minute.

In Fremont news, a new cafe has replaced the Speedy Reedy at 34th and Stone Way. The new Cafe Solsticio serves up some organic Caffe Vita brew, and plans to serve breakfast and lunch are currently in the works.

According to the Central District News, a new Greek-Persian restaurant plans to open just west of MLK where Mezzaluna (and before that, Island Soul) used to be. The new restaurant, named Kabobish (2608 S Judkins St.), will specialize in gyros and kabobs.

It’s only a matter of time before robots decide to take over human barista positions, and Capitol Hill’s newest cafe may just be the first one to give it a go. On October 15, Metrix Create: Space will be debuting its less-than-ordinary coffeehouse slash DIY shop at 623 Broadway E. Metrix’s robot-servant, MakerBot, renders 3-D plastic objects for any creative mind who feeds it the right design file. More information about Metrix can be found on the Capitol Hill Seattle blog.

Capitol Hill’s newest bars seem to be following a hoofed-animal theme. First there was Pony, and now it looks like Unicorn (1118 E. Pike) will be opening shortly just down the street. Owner Adam Heimstadt and his crew informed Capitol Hill Seattle that the new lounge will feature a French circus theme, accompanied by arcade games and carousel parts.

Phinneywood learned this week that the Mexican restaurant Taqueria Tequila (NW 85th St. and 3rd Ave. NW) will expand its space another 800 square feet. The owners plan to make the new space into more of a drinking establishment, and plans to continue serving food from the main kitchen.
