I will occasionally build an entire weekend solely around the eating of dim sum. Plans, schedules, travel, movies, nights out and nights in–all of it circulating around the ridiculous consumption of as many tiny plates of Chinese food as I can eat for breakfast on Saturday, Sunday or both. Two days based completely around the consumption of shrimp balls and sticky rice, shu mai, char siu bao and dumplings in a dozen varieties. This was what I did a couple weekends back while scouting out Macky’s Dim Sum in Issaquah for this week’s review. I would get up, spring out of bed, throw on some clothes and run out the door–making straight for Gilman Village where I would sit with my newspaper or dogeared and ancient copy of Neuromancer, wait for the cart ladies to see me eyeing their wares and then eat ’til I was ready to pop.It was a good weekend–lazy and fat and full of sloth, beginning with good food and ending with the sure knowledge that the next time I was in the mood for a dumpling breakfast, I now knew exactly where to go.As always, photographer Peter Mumford followed along behind me, snapping pictures in my wake. He captured some of the best dishes on Macky’s dim sum board for this week’s Food Porn slideshow, and offered up a sort of visual guide to future overindulgence. So check it out, won’t you? If you’re looking for a place to eat pork buns this weekend, Macky’s is a good choice. And if you’re just looking for the zero-calorie alternative (or are some kind of weird penitent who will look at pictures of food but not eat it), then the slideshow is (almost) good enough to eat.
