Giving downtown commuters one less reason to trek up to Capitol Hill

Giving downtown commuters one less reason to trek up to Capitol Hill for an after-work drink,Radiator Whiskey opened yesterday in Pike Place Market. Owner Dan Bugge also operates Matt’s in the Market across the hall. If the cocktails concocted from house whiskey (via localdistillery 2Bar Spirits) passed out at Tuesday’s preview are an indicator, drinks will be stiff and stellar. The second story space at 94 Pike St. with the same familiar half-moon windows as Matt’s can be described using adjectives that apply to a lot of recently opened joints around town: ‘woodsy’ ‘found’ and ‘reclaimed’ come to mind. The menu is packed with well-executed dude food (case in point: pork-cheek stew with Fritos.) A few lighter dishes for vegetarian diners are also thrown into the mix. Radiator Whiskey is open Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight.

Also downtown, Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails opens tomorrow at 1415 5th Ave. on the fifth floor of the Red Lion Hotel. Every day from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Frolik offers bites and cocktails for $5 and beer and wine for $4.50. There’s also a large outdoor dining area that includes games like shuffleboard and ping-pong.
