For your mingling pleasure, five news items to get today’s culinary conversations started:
1. Next Friday, May 17, is Bike-To-Work Day (although there’s nothing to stop you from pedaling sooner), and Grand Central Bakery is observing the holiday by giving a free baguette to each customer who can prove he or she rode there. A press release suggests showing your helmet, but the rookie mark on your shin should do the trick too. Fresh baguettes are delivered at 10 a.m., so time your arrival accordingly.
2.
The Seattle Foundation next week is hosting its third annual GiveBIG, a one-day, online charitable giving event with gift matching opportunities, and there are plenty of food-related non-profits on the list, including FareStart, 21 Acres, Seattle Tilth and dozens of food banks. 4. Eater Seattle earlier this week ran a link to Tom Douglas’ Google Talk. Worth a watch.
5. Restaurants and bars are honoring this week’s susnshine by breaking out the summer drinks: Try the new ginger shandy at Cafe Pettirosso, iced nettle tea with lemon at Cafe Lago and whatever Matt Dillon is shrubbing at Bar Sajor.
