Steve Rinella, author of The Scavenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine, visits Puyallup to talk about his new book. A hunter/gatherer’s approach to cooking from Escoffier’s Le Guide Culinaire, Rinella’s Guide tells the tale of his cross-country hunt for wild ingredients, including frogs’ legs, carp semen, and songbirds. Broadway’s Garage Billiards and Bowl turns 10! Little known fact: Pearl Jam’s guitarist Mike McCready and manager Kelly Curtis were instrumental in transforming what was an old auto repair shop into this hip pool joint. All summer Garage will offer late-night discounts on pool and bowling, Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to close. “Grab a cab, bus, or friend” is the anti-drunk-driving message of the Last Call program, sponsored by the Washington Restaurant Association and developed by Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center, with Public Health Seattle and King County. Participating establishments receive $10 taxi vouchers, and will waive cover charges and offer free soft drinks to designated drivers. Launched in Fremont this May, the program will expand to Ballard this month. Belltown, Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square, and the University District are next.
Upscale grocer Whole Foods Market will open a new store in Redmond. The new location will tempt food snobs and food tourists alike with their generous olive bar and fantastic cheese selection.
