Floyd’s Place

The true value of a pub is measured by the number of people who flock there during a significant event like the World Series. Judging by the crowd of people squeezed into this brightly lit, homey space (where bulky rolls of paper towels grace every table), Floyd’s Place is really the place to be for beer, barbecue, and bullshitting on lower Queen Anne. Appetizers like the nachos ($8.95) and the quesadillas ($5.95) are straightforward and fairly unmemorable, but the ribs ($11.95 half-rack, $17.95 full) . . . the ribs are to die for. Perhaps it’s that the barbecue sauce has just enough tang without being too spicy for wimps like me, or maybe it’s that the half-rack of ribs is still enough to feed a small family, or at least a burly baseball fan bursting with testosterone. Whatever the reason, Floyd’s Place has such mouth-watering barbecue that you won’t even have to worry about ordering appetizers (our waitress seemed to think we were a little piggy for getting them because they come in gargantuan proportions). The service is fast and friendly even during the late-evening rush, and the picnic table setup of the dining room encourages the lively, social atmosphere. And let’s just say that there are many beers on tap . . . many. 521 First Ave. N., 206-284-3542. UPTOWN
