Capitol Hill is already overstuffed with pastry shops, does it really need another? If it’s named Bakery Nouveau, the answer is most certainly yes. The long-anticipated second location of the West Seattle patisserie opened yesterday at 15th and John. CHS reports that in addition to the same famous pastries, candies and sandwiches served at the original Nouveau, its new digs house with one of the few Slayer espresso machines in the state (beans are from Fremont’s Lighthouse Roasters.) The bakery’s current hours are Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Also on the Hill, modern Vietnamese restaurant Monsoon at 615 19th Ave. E just launched a new happy hour. Running daily from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close, the menu features $6 cocktails alongside $5 and $7 plates, including papaya salad and beef carpaccio.

Across the pond in downtown Bellevue, Monsoon East at 10245 Main St. is hosting a special dinner with Oola Distillery on May 7. Oola owner Kirby Kallas-Lewis will talk shop with diners during the meal. It features multiple courses paired with a taste test of Oola’s spirits and cocktails concocted by Monsoon East bar manager Jon Christiansen. The event starts at 6:30 and costs $70 per person.
