Birthday cake, root beer float, bubble gumThese scrumptiously named, small-batch lollipops come from a local company called This Charming Candy. I found them while browsing the new CakeSpy shop on Capitol Hill last week. These pops are the definition of eye candy. I purchased the celebration time lollipops: birthday cake, root beer float and bubble gum. The ingredients are basically sugar and corn syrup and the artificial flavors are minimal, which means you’re not going to get that super synthetic flavor in the candy. The birthday cake comes with candy confetti and the root beer float is topped with powdered sugar. The lollipops need to warm up in your mouth for a few seconds before the flavor really develops, but once it does, it’s a nice subtle taste that delivers authentic cake, root beer and bubble gum flavors. CakeSpy’s Jessie Oleson wrote about these pops on her blog when she first discovered them a few months ago. “I came across them because they share a commercial kitchen with Starry Nights Catering in Kirkland, a catering company which actually has cakes that are far more delicious than catering-company cakes usually are,” says Oleson. “They started out selling on ETSY and have been given a shout-out in Real Simple Magazine. They’re still a pretty small operation and I am happy to be one of their first retailers (yay for early adopting!).”Besides the celebration pack, there’s an adventure pack that contains pistachio-marshmallow, teaberry and nutmeg-creme. The spice rack comes with citrus tangerine-clove, vanilla-cardamom and salted caramel flavors. There are also plenty of other flavors which you can find here. Handmade candy with cute packaging and catchy flavor profiles doesn’t come cheap; a bag of six is $10. If you want to check out This Charming Candy in person, they’ll be at the Urban Craft Uprising July 10-11 at Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. The event, at least, is free!
