Apothecary: Both Ways Cafe, 4922 S. Genesee St., 722-5799, MT. BAKERTime of Entry: Sunday, 10:45 a.m.Level of Hangover: Surprisingly light. Had a big Saturday night of partying planned, but said party was cut short when the host had an allergic reaction to some shellfish and blew up like a balloon. He headed to the ER– I was on the couch by midnight.Level of Waitstaff Hangover: The waitstaff, too, seemed perky. Both Ways has the relaxed country storefront feel of Capitol Hill’s Volunteer Park Cafe, but without the attitude. (For the record, I dig the VPC, but there’s no mistaking that it’s the ‘it’ thing when you visit.) Both Ways, by contrast, has this great unassuming vibe and though plenty busy, it wasn’t more than a five-minute wait for a seat or a spot outside at one of a handful of basic picnic tables. Prescriptions: One word, biscuits. Served still steaming on the inside, appropriately crusty on the outside, and all-around delicious. I also had the omelet special, served with chunks of ham, mushrooms, and Beechers Flagship cheese, which has the requisite tang to be tailor-made for eggie purposes. Tim had the honey wheat French toast, which would’ve have been a good spongy salve, had he been hurting. Both Ways is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays, and also serves lunch during the morning hours. The lunch menu looked great. Basic. Things like grilled ham and cheese and curry chicken salad sandwiches. There’s also a daily pasta special and some salads. For the non-meat types there’s roasted veggies on flatbread, or a tofu scramble with sesame soy marinade.Hair of the Dog: No Bloody Marys here, but there is a selection of bottled beer if you’re in need of some bubbles. Recommend the fresh-squeezed OJ and stout coffee to wake that brain back up.Success of the Soak: In this case it served as pre-hangover protection. A perfect combination of starch and grease for an afternoon of frosty pints and European Cup soccer.
