For nearly three years now, Dweezil Zappa has been fulfilling his destiny: To keep the music of Frank Zappa, his legendary musician/composer father, alive by playing it himself. After holing up for a couple of years to learn some of the elder Zappas sprawling, famously complicated, bewildering and exhilarating back catalog, Dweezils been touring with a six-piece band thats featured various members of Franks old band (this leg stars Zappa in New York-era singer-guitarist Ray White). If youve caught them live or just seen some footage, you know that theyve been more than doing the material justice, and the shows have been quite emotional, too. Says Dweezil: When you get onstage and start seeing peoples’ reactions to stuff, and then certain melodies hit you like a ton of bricks there’s plenty of times when the whole band is in tears.
