Admittedly, the seven-member-strong Whalebones is one of my favorite Seattle bands right now. Their swirling, stomping, psychedelic-boogie concoction of dirty organs, skuzzy, heavy-riffing guitars, sinuous bass lines, and a grooving, tight-knit backbeat captures the best parts of early Crazy Horse, replete with dual vocal harmonies between lead singer/guitarist Justin Deary and organist Amy Blaschke (also of Night Canopy) and careening guitar solos. Its fucking huge, unwavering, and beautiful, all in one. Their new self-released EP, Morning Man, has been on constant rotation around here, and I continually fiend for more. It doesnt take long for Whalebones to grow on youtheyre the musical equivalent of a Sequoia seedling soaked in Miracle-Gro, soaring toward the sky before your eyes.
