Travis DeVries (of the Turn Ons)

Sunday, June 15

When you’ve known someone as long as I’ve know Travis DeVries, you come up with affectionate nicknames for them. I used to call him Travis “Tightpants” Turn-On because his skinny self always rocks the snuggest trousers. But now I’m leaning towards Papa T, because that boy births songs like a horny Appalachian seventeen-year-old on fertility drugs. He puts the word “prolific” to shame. When I asked him about his in-the-works solo record, which is coming out in addition to two Turn Ons record he’s recently written, he soft-spokenly told me, “Well, it’s kind of rainy sounding…I’ve recorded seventeen songs so far…then I think I need to record another nine, but I’ve got some new stuff too…” and kind of trails off. Somebody better inform Social Services, ’cause in the time it’s taken me to type this, he’s probably got two more on the way.
