The Jet Age

Monday, June 30

When you hear the phrase, “rock opera,” The Who’s famous 1969 concept album release Tommy should immediately spring to mind. With Tommy, the Who left some ginormous shoes to fill, but D.C. band the Jet Age has made an attempt at doing just that with their February release, What Did You Do During the War, Daddy?. Using the overarching concept of a citizen’s responsibility for their government’s actions when that government is “out of control,” the band makes their point with a dramatic protagonist: a revolutionary American suicide bomber. Eric Tischler takes you through the paces of emotion with his politically charged lyrics, alternating between smooth shoegazer and heavy, classic rock style guitar licks. Left wing political junkies who dig socially conscious rock and roll should make the trip to The High Dive a priority. If the band’s live show can deliver the fanfare a true “rock opera,” demands, it’ll definitely be a spectacle worth experiencing. With the Unspeakable Horror, Climber, Yellow Peril. High Dive, 513 N. 36th, 632-0212. 8 p.m. $6.
