The Copyrights appear to have infringed liberally on a sound trademarked by the Buzzcocks and the Ramones, but when you’re dealing with goofy, fun pop punk, no one’s going to get too haughty about intellectual property. This Carbondale, Illinois-based band isnt G-rated (while the Descendents deadpanned “Everything Sucks,” the Copyrights assess that “Shit’s Fucked”), but it is general-audience accessible, with massive hooks and friendly-sounding vocals that eschew the genre’s standard snottiness. The Copyrights are prolific, as groups that specialize in short, catchy songs should be: They released Learn the Hard Way, their fourth album in four years, in February. Copyrights concerts prove that joyous pogo-hopping fans move just as much as raging moshers, but with less malice…like the difference between bumper cars and a hit-and-run.
