Good things come in threes: Tonight is the stateside CD-release party for Grand Hallway’s Japan-debuted album Yes Is the Answer, a performance from Voyager One (Grand Hallway member/producer Jeramy Koepping’s other band), and another chance to pick up Sleepy Eyes of Death’s recently-released Street Lights for a Ribcage. Yes and Street Lights are both beauties but couldn’t be more different. One is sentimental, with pianos, sweeping violins, and Tomo Nakayama’s honeyed tenor; the other is emotionally bombastic, with analog synths and drums that would sound at home on an Isis record. Each of these local acts is worth at least eight bucks, but I’m most excited about Sleepy Eyes. Their retro-futuristic, celestial precision just might keep you up all night.
