Pat Graham

Candid photos from a rock chronicler

If you’re a Modest Mouse fan, you’ve seen Pat Graham’s photographs before. In the CD booklet for Lonesome Crowded West, he took the pic of the desolate, snow-covered mountains and highway, shot from the Mouse’s tour van in Montana. He went on tour with them in the late ‘90s and the pictures he took capture the band still steering through the American underground—Isaac Brock is fresh-faced and slim, Jeremiah Green looks playful and happy, and Eric Judy looks exactly the same as he does now (has anyone ever looked so perpetually boyish?). And while the press materials for Graham’s new book, Silent Pictures, tout these rare early Modest Mouse images, he documented many other acts during this period, including Bikini Hill, Lungfish, Tortoise, Sea and Cake, and Ian Svenonius both onstage and off. Graham will be on hand tonight to discuss the book and his years on the road. Mouse freaks take note: Eric Judy himself will be there showing off his harmonica skills.
