One BE Lo

Sunday, May 25

Michigan-based MC One Be Lo may have the claim to underground fame

here (he’s half of duo Binary Star, member of B-boy crew Massive

Monkeys, and founder of Subterraneous Records), but don’t relegate the

Seattle-centric talent on hand tonight to the darker corners of your

mind, where Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” plays on loop. While One

Be Lo defines “The G Gap,” the howling chasm all dope boys fall into,

and L.A.-based MC Blu announces he’s “GloryUs,” Macklemore tackles

“White Privilege,” “Ego,” and his lack of size in the “Penis Song.”

(Look out for his genuine Italian-spandex tiny-penis pants.) The

Physics, like Macklemore, deliver songs that are an encyclopedia of

self- and social awareness, sometimes painfully so, plus one damn fine

ode to beer. With the Physics, Blu, Macklemore, DJ Marc Sense. Chop

Suey, 1325 E. Madison St., 324-8000. 8 p.m. $10 adv./$12. All ages.
