NYE! Voyager One

Monday, December 31

Once touted as the perfect band for anyone waiting fruitlessly for My Bloody Valentine, Verve, and Ride reunions, local space-rock/shoegaze/dream-pop (i.e. the “loads-of-pedals genres”) outfit Voyager One has steadily etched its own vibe and identity over the years. On albums—such as their upcoming Afterhours in the Afterlife—core members Peter Marchese and Jeramy Koepping prove to be masters at anchoring heady guitar and synth/sampler-generated atmospherics and wispy vocals to carefully structured songs and memorable melodies. Live, Voyager One pushes its lineup to five and its grooves to epic levels, throwing in loads of visuals to complete the cosmic trip. MBV and the Verve have re-formed, but frankly, right now I’d rather see Voyager One. With Floater and the Burning Hearts Burlesque Troop. MICHAEL ALAN GOLDBERG
