Message to Love

Honoring Hendrix with a glimpse of his famous git

How’d you feel the first time you listened to “All Along the Watchtower”? Whatever emotion it stirred, it’s likely you never forgot it, and it could even be one of the million little things about music, deep in the back of your psyche, that brought you to this city if you aren’t a native. And now that you live here, chances are you’ve become jaded musically. Spoiled by a steady stream of shows (“they’ll be back in six months”) and living legends you might meet at the Wallingford QFC (I’m not naming names). This spring EMP is offering a chance to reconnect with your love for one dude who’s unfortunately long-gone—Hendrix, of course. Message to Love: Remembering and Reclaiming Jimi Hendrix, celebrates most of all his “guitar sound and its continued resonance with music listeners” by putting his Woodstock Fender Strat on display and opening up the gallery walls for your comments and well-wishes. If the man made a mark on your life, you can make a mark on this wall, and be part of the ongoing exhibit, which will enter an as-of-now secret Phase II in early April. Experience Music Project, Level 2, 325 Fifth Ave. N., 770-2700. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Daily. Exhibit continues through April 6. RACHEL SHIMP
